Port of OgdensburgThe Port of Ogdensburg is the only U.S. port on the St. Lawrence River, making it the eastern most U.S. port on the Great Lakes and the northern most port in New York State.
Located 60 miles (96 km) east of Lake Ontario the Port serves a number of large cities in northern New York State, including Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, Albany and Utica. Ottawa, the Canadian capital is only 50 miles (96km) from the port, and Kingston, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec are both within 100 miles (160 km).
The Port of Ogdensburg is closer to Northern Europe than other U.S. ports, thus making it highly economical for ships to deliver cargo to Ogdensburg and then continue on to the Great Lakes and markets of Western U.S. and Canada. Because of this strategic location on the St. Lawrence Seaway, the markets of the major northeastern cities can be served by ships traveling from Northern Europe.
Clean, modern and efficient general cargo facilities with over 125,000 square feet of general cargo warehousing at the port, as well as a 30,000 square foot bulk storage warehouse offer the flexibility needed to expedite the discharging or loading of agricultural and industrial commodities.
The Port of Ogdensburg is Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) qualified. Goods shipped into an FTZ are not considered within U.S. customs territory, but in international commerce. Therefore, goods entering the FTZ do not require formal Customs entry, payment of Customs duties, or government excise taxes and can enter without thorough examination.
